Located in the province of Alajuela, and surrounded by cane fields we find Grecia,
it is home to the only Metal Church in Central America and a national monument that fills its inhabitants with pride.
The picturesque town of Grecia (1) in Alajuela province has the distinction of being one of the cleanest towns in Central America.
Located some 20 km north of Alajuela city. Lying northwest of the capital San Jose, Grecia is situated in Costa Rica’s
Central Valley amidst beautiful mountain landscapes and rich lush sceneries.
The local Tico community here is very friendly and eagerly welcomes visitors into their homes as well as
their hearts. Mostly farmers by profession, the people here are relaxed and laidback. Being an important agricultural hub of
the country, sugar cane is grown and harvested in Grecia in huge amounts, as is organic coffee and pineapples.
Grecia has a fantastic climate that is fresh and breezy, keeping the weather here cool most of the year. This area is a
great place to explore with its green and unspoiled environment.
A Costa Rican shopping trip cannot be surpassed for its colour. Your shopping experience will include quaint local
shops of all descriptions. Look for fine woodwork, the famous Sarchó oxcarts, and a wide variety of handcrafts.
We continue to Sarchi (2), known as the Cradle of Costa Rican Artisans because of its fine wood workshops.
Here you will have time to enjoy the artistic work of the local artisans as they create the famous typical
oxcart and you will be able to shop for that special souvenir to take home.
